Monday, May 16

8 a.m. – Breakfast

9-11:30 a.m. – Into the Woods, Over the Edge, and Back Home Again: Mythmaking for Art and Life, with Caryn: By exploring the roots and branches of the stories that tell us what to be, how to live, and who to love, we can discover what in these stories needs to be revised, thrown out entirely, or recovered. We’ll write about the guiding stories our culture, community, pals, and family reinforce as well as the stories we tell ourselves, all in the name of finding more freedom, joy, and meaning.

11:30 a.m. – Replenishing Movement/Dance

12 – Lunch

1-2 p.m. – Roots & Wings of the Creative Life: Putting Yourself Out There While Taking Care of Yourself In Here, with Kelley and Caryn: Writers, musicians, artists and others often find they must put themselves out there, sharing their voice and vision. We’ll talk about ways in which we’ve learned to share our work and what’s behind that work while remaining true to who we are and our callings. Being an artist also requires of ourselves immense clarity, discipline, and action when it comes to tender and fierce self-care. We’ll share some of what we’ve learned on the eternal road of self-care, especially how to balance the work and thrill of our art with the work and thrill of our health. There will be space for reflecting on what self-care is for each of us, and sharing strategies, experiences, and lessons.

2-6 p.m. – Free time (including massage appointments with Rachel Craeger, 2-6 p.m.) and art stations with Amy and/or Sandy.

Plus, you’ll also have opportunities to collaborate with others and, if you choose, submit your work for review. Then, singing as a group, we’ll learn safe, easy, fun ways to gently warm up our voices and learn songs (some written specifically for this retreat) in different styles incorporating several easy ways to sing multiple parts at once. Lewis writes, and in our own writing, we will flirt with, dwell in, visit, and explore the miracles close at hand in our history, opportunities, callings, and wonderments.
